Prosecutor Ocname Clame Dameus flip flopping on Petrocaribe funds
Prosecutor Ocname Clame Dameus has canceled the order he issued on Monday to public and commercial banks to freeze bank accounts of 36 institutions and individuals who received payments from the Petrocaribe funds.
Firms affected by that measure include Dominican companies who vehemently protested against that decision.
These companies reacted with a press release that says they have all the documents related to the 14 projects that they executed in Haiti while claiming that the Haitian government still owed them 52 million US dollars. They deny any involvement in the corruption related to the Petrocaribe fund claiming that they always made themselves available to the Haitian authorities should they ever demand accounts.
On Tuesday, the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Port-au-Prince issued a press statement informing the general public and directors of Haitian banking institutions that following meetings held with some directors of companies targeted by the provisional measures on November 12, 2018, it decided to postpone these measures.
