Port-au-Prince officially cancels all carnival related activities for 2019
The city of Port-au-Prince has officially canceled all carnival related activities for the year 2019. In a statement released Wednesday morning, Mayor Youri Chevry explains that in light of recent violent street demonstrations, the city will not be able to guarantee the safety of carnival participants.
“The Port-au-Prince Municipal Administration announces the cancellation of all 2019 Carnival related activities.
Following days of crisis that have paralyzed Port-au-Prince and several provincial towns, the Port-au-Prince Municipal Administration have decided to cancel the pre-carnival festivities scheduled for February 24th and the main carnival that was scheduled for March 3rd ,4th and 5th.
After long hours of consultation, the Organizing Committee of the Carnival of Port-au-Prince found it impossible to plan a quality carnival parade in the short time leading up to the three days of festivities and could not guarantee the absolute safety of the carnivals”.
The municipality of Croix des Bouquets has alo canceled the carnival activities that were scheduled for February 22nd to the 24th.
