Haiti’s government salutes Osaka’s victory
Haiti’s government, including President Jovenel Moise and Prime Minister Jean Henry Céant, welcomed the victory of Naomi Osaka in the final of the Australian Open.
In his congratulatory message, President Jovenel Moise says Naomi Osaka delivered a heroic match and brilliantly won her 2nd Grand Slam title while noting that this Monday, the young tenniswoman of Haitian origin will be crowned world number 1. “Haiti is proud of you, Naomi, and it is the entire people of Haiti who congratulates you for this feat” concluded the President in his tweet.
Prime Minister Céant praised the champion. “When Naomi Osaka inscribes her name in golden letter in the gallery of legends of world tennis, I bow again to the purism of her game that inspires the young generation”
The Haitian Minister of Youth and Sports, Edwing Charles, also congratulated Naomi Osaka after her victory at the Australian Open 2019.
“The Haitian people as a whole are proud of Naomi who has offered two Grand Slams in a short period becoming the world number 1 and for having associated the name of Haiti to one of the world’s greatest sports success”, he added.
Foreign Affairs Minister Bocchit Edmond also welcomed the victory of this ambassador of Haiti. “Congratulations to Naomi Osaka, the new world number one. Perseverance and determination, pay. You are a living example for young people around the world, but especially for young Haitian tennis players.” concluded the Chancellor.
