Former Haiti National Police Chief arrested in St-Marc

Investigative Judge Dieunel Lumerant ordered  former General Director of Haiti’s National Police, Godson Orelus, jailed  in St-Marc following  a hearing regarding shipment of illegal arms to the coastal town in 2016.

It was the second hearing for Orelus on this matter and the judge concluded that the former police chief was linked to the illegal importation of fire arms.

Tempers flared in the courtroom as Mr Orelus security team objected to the arrest.

Late this afternoon, Godson Orelus was formally charged with transnational crime, illegal trafficking of firearms, ammunition and criminal conspiracy.

Back in 2016 a container filled with different type high caliber weapons was seized in the parking lot of the customs office in St-Marc.

Junior Joseph and his brother Jimy Joseph, were arrested recently in the United States and charged with illegal shipment of weapons to Saint-Marc in 2016.
