Coronavirus: Haiti’s government orders gear. Private sector to contribute.
Haitian Prime Minister Joseph Jouthe announced that he has met with several business leaders including owners and managers at the industrial park and other private business parks to solicit assistance in the fight against the corona virus.
The Prime Minister requests that the factories that manufacture medical gear for exportation contribute one million face masks. The government plans to buy an additional 10 million masks from these factories. These masks will be distributed to the population free of charge. Prime Minister Jouthe adds that as soon as they are available, everyone in the population will be required to wear one.
The government has also ordered several ventilators, masks, medical gowns and hospital beds from a company based in China for an amount estimated at US 18 million dollars.
